Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill HB 1822 include a significant change in the time frame for certain legal actions: the deadline to file a civil action has been increased from 10 to 20 business days following a violation. Additionally, the amendments clarify that in civil cases, the fault standard remains ordinary negligence, and it is explicitly stated that just because information is publicly accessible does not exempt someone from liability. These changes are important because they strengthen protections for personal data and ensure that individuals have more time to act when their information is mishandled.
