Intr SB 580 2026R2847 (c) Therefore, it is the purpose of this article to regulate the practice of medical imaging or radiation therapy in this state by requiring that a person have a license or apprentice license or permit when practicing medical imaging or radiation therapy technology.

(j) "Licensed practitioner" means a person licensed in West Virginia to practice medicine, chiropractic, podiatry, osteopathy or dentistry an advanced level health care provider in West Virginia licensed to diagnose and treat individuals, including physicians, chiropractors, podiatrists, physician assistants, speech pathologists, dentists, physical therapists, and advanced practice registered nurses.
(l) "Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI" means the performance of medical imaging using radio waves, magnetic fields and a computer to produce images of the body tissues.

(c) Any individual possessing a valid Medical Imaging license issued by the board and seeks to cross-train in the discipline of Nuclear Medicine Technology or Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology, may obtain an apprentice license in that discipline for the purpose of CS for SB 580 obtaining the necessary clinical experience requirements in order to qualify to sit for the required examination.
(a) Any individual holding a valid Medical Imaging and/or Radiation Therapy license issued by the board who wishes to cross-train in another modality may obtain an apprentice license to gain the clinical experience required to qualify for the certification examination.
