What changed in the latest version

The recent amendment to Bill SB 980 introduces changes to how fire and emergency medical services (EMS) can receive financial assistance, specifically regarding loans for purchasing protective equipment. The new version emphasizes the importance of not allowing any company to obtain loans for this kind of equipment more than once every five years, promoting fiscal responsibility. Additionally, the modified bill now includes a clearer framework for managing chemicals known as PFAS, which are used in firefighting foams and pose health risks. These changes matter because they aim to enhance the safety and sustainability of firefighting practices while ensuring that resources are used wisely.
