The latest version of Senate Bill 715 changes the contribution requirements for firefighters' pensions by clearly stating that municipalities must deduct a minimum of 9% from the salaries of their paid firefighters. It clarifies that municipalities have the option to contribute additional amounts to help cover these costs. This matters because it ensures a stable funding source for firefighter pensions while allowing local governments to support their personnel financially if they choose. Overall, these adjustments aim to strengthen the retirement benefits for firefighters in Oklahoma.
