The amended bill SB 28 now allows members of the West Virginia retirement system who joined after July 1, 2015, to use their accrued annual and sick leave days to gain extra credit towards their retirement service. Previously, those members were not permitted to apply their leave days for this purpose. This change matters because it provides more flexibility and benefits for newer members of the retirement system, potentially leading to a more secure retirement for those workers.
