The amendments to Bill SB 1599 specify that the vote on Referendum Petition 2026-302 will take place during the primary election on May 19, 2026, rather than at a different time. This change is important because it aligns the voting date with an already scheduled election, potentially increasing voter turnout and awareness. Additionally, it establishes a new process for how the explanatory statements and financial estimates for the referendum will be prepared and presented to the public. The declaration of an emergency means this plan will take effect immediately upon passage, ensuring timely preparations for the election.
