The changes in Senate Bill 1125 primarily clarify the process for municipalities to levy an excise tax on medical marijuana sales. Now, a majority of voters must approve this tax, and if they reject it, no new election can occur for six months. Additionally, the bill outlines specific requirements for initiative petitions, including ensuring they are approved by a city clerk before gathering signatures. These updates are important because they aim to create a clearer and more structured mechanism for municipalities to fund local initiatives through this tax, ensuring transparency and voter involvement.
