Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Bill SB 786 clarifies the regulations around transporting alcoholic beverages in vehicles. Specifically, it emphasizes that OPEN containers must be placed in the rear trunk or an area not easily accessible while driving—this includes specific compartments in larger vehicles. Additionally, the bill now explicitly prohibits consuming marijuana or inhaling secondhand smoke in vehicles, which aligns with public safety concerns. These changes matter because they create clearer rules for drivers regarding alcohol and marijuana use, aiming to reduce potential hazards on the road.
