Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill HB 1476 has changed the language regarding the responsibilities of the superintendent of public instruction concerning school building assessments. Originally, the bill mandated that the superintendent "shall" collect assessments and document inventory every four years. The revised version now states the superintendent "may" do these tasks, which makes the assessments optional rather than mandatory. This shift matters because it reduces the requirements on the superintendent and school districts, potentially affecting the consistency and thoroughness of building assessments across the state.
