The updated version of House Bill 1115 clarifies the conditions under which a health care agent can decide to withhold or discontinue life-prolonging measures for a patient. Specifically, it emphasizes that this authority can only be exercised if the health care agent is given explicit permission in the power of attorney and does not conflict with existing laws regarding anatomical gifts. This change is important because it ensures that patients' wishes regarding end-of-life care are respected while providing clear guidelines for health care agents and physicians.
