Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill SB 229 introduce provisions that allow student-athletes to enter into Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agency contracts. This change is significant because it clarifies the legal framework for student-athletes to profit from their personal brand while ensuring that certain NIL contracts are not subject to public records requirements, which could protect the privacy of the athletes involved. Overall, these updates aim to better support and regulate the economic opportunities available to student-athletes in North Carolina.
