The recent amendment to HB 1078 adds specific requirements for the composition of the Advisory Council on Rare Diseases. Instead of one representative researcher, the council will now include two physicians, and there will only be one registered nurse instead of two. These changes ensure that a broader range of expertise is present on the council, which can lead to better-informed decisions regarding rare disease research, treatment, and education in North Carolina. This adjustment acknowledges the increasing complexity of rare diseases and the need for diverse input in addressing them.
