The changes made to Bill HB 948 include the addition of a specific reference to the county board of commissioners' ability to levy a local sales and use tax through a referendum and clarifications regarding the repeal of that tax. Notably, the bill ensures that if a county decides to repeal the tax, it must still manage any outstanding debts tied to that tax responsibly, allowing refinancing options without extending the maturity date of bonds. This matters because it provides a framework for counties to manage their tax levies and finances more effectively while assuring that municipal debts related to those taxes are handled appropriately.
