The recent amendment to Bill SB 283 changes how certain serious crimes committed by minors are handled in the legal system. Specifically, it stipulates that minors who are at least 15 years old and charged with specific offenses like first-degree murder or aggravated sexual assault will be prosecuted under adult criminal laws. This change is significant because it aims to hold older minors accountable for serious criminal behavior, reflecting a shift towards harsher penalties for violent crimes committed by youth.
