What changed in the latest version

The amendments to Bill HB 766 significantly lower the maximum recovery amount for damages caused by a minor's wilful or malicious actions. Previously, the bill allowed for recovery of up to $100,000 for damage to property owned or leased by local public entities, but this has now been removed altogether. The new limit now stands at $2,500 for each individual or entity affected, and it refocuses the allowable damages strictly on medical and related expenses. These changes matter because they reduce potential financial liabilities for minors while also clarifying what constitutes compensable damages in the context of personal injury.
