Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to SB 2197 includes provisions for municipalities to impose a graduated fine schedule of up to $100, as well as the option for community service for individuals aged 10 and older who are found to be truants. This change ensures that if the truant is under the age of 10, their parent or guardian can be held responsible for the fines or community service. Additionally, the amendment clarifies that local authorities cannot create regulations that conflict with state laws regarding truancy. These updates are significant as they aim to provide a more structured and consistent approach to handling truancy within local jurisdictions.
