Plain-language change summary

The changes to Bill HB 166 clarify that minors under the age of 17 cannot give up their right to have a lawyer represent them in court. This is significant because it strengthens legal protections for younger individuals involved in criminal or delinquency proceedings, ensuring they have the support they need to navigate the legal system. The change aims to help prevent minors from making uninformed decisions that could adversely affect their defense.
