The latest version of SB 820 introduces requirements for municipalities with populations over 500,000 to install and operate surveillance cameras at locations where they manage transactions or spend public money. This change aims to enhance public safety and accountability, ensuring that city-owned properties are monitored similarly to businesses that are mandated to have cameras. Additionally, this bill clarifies that it limits the powers of home rule units in this context, which helps maintain a consistent approach across the state.
