The recent amendment to HB 1493 adds a requirement for group accident and health insurance policies to offer coverage for mental, emotional, or nervous disorders, similar to how other medical conditions are treated. Importantly, while this coverage is now mandated, insured individuals may need to pay up to half of the treatment costs, and an annual benefit limit is set at either $10,000 or 25% of the lifetime policy limit. This change matters because it broadens access to mental health care for those covered under group policies, addressing gaps that could hinder individuals seeking necessary treatment.
