The recent amendment to HB 1237 updates the Illinois Vehicle Code to clearly prohibit driving under the influence of any intoxicating substances, ensuring that those impaired by drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol cannot operate a vehicle safely. This change emphasizes a zero-tolerance approach for combined substance influence, which aims to enhance road safety and reduce traffic accidents. By clarifying these regulations, the law now provides law enforcement with stronger tools to address impaired driving. Overall, these modifications are significant because they aim to improve public safety on the roads.
