Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment in SB 978 made notable changes to existing regulations on speed limits enforced by the Department of Transportation. It allows the Department to adjust maximum speed limits based on safety assessments of specific intersections or highway sections, with limits set at 65 mph or 55 mph for larger vehicles. The amendment removed the Secretary of State's authority over certain administrative duties in the vehicle code, streamlining decision-making related to speed limits. This matters because it gives more power to the Department to enhance road safety by adjusting speed limits according to current traffic conditions.
