Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill HB 6874 includes a change where it now explicitly defines the consequences for municipal police departments and county sheriffs if they hire individuals who have been decertified as police officers. Previously, the bill did not specify the penalties for violating this rule; now, it states that such hiring practices will lead to a Class A misdemeanor for the responsible hiring officers. This change is important because it strengthens accountability in police hiring practices, ensuring that individuals who have lost their certification are not allowed to serve in law enforcement roles, thereby enhancing public safety.
