Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill HB 1547 clarify the definitions and penalties for resisting or obstructing peace officers and correctional institution employees. Key changes include specifying that resisting or obstructing a peace officer who causes injury is now treated more seriously, moving the offense from a Class 1 felony to a Class 3 felony. This adjustment aims to enhance accountability for those who engage in such actions, ensuring stricter consequences for endangering the safety of law enforcement personnel. Additionally, the bill now emphasizes that the sentences for these offenses cannot be reduced through probation, ensuring that offenders serve the minimum required time.
