The recent amendment to Bill HB 4877 introduces specific guidelines for how much unused sick leave can be counted as credit for service when employees retire. Employees can now earn credit based on the amount of unused sick leave they have, with a clear schedule laid out that details how many days correspond to fractions of a year of service. This change matters because it helps ensure that retired employees receive fair credit for their unused sick leave, potentially impacting their retirement benefits. Overall, it clarifies the rules and provides a more structured approach to accounting for unused sick leave in pension calculations.
