25 OLR Bill Analysis HB 5175 AN ACT CONCERNING PURPLE PROPERTY BORDERS AS WARNING TO TRESPASSERS.
SUMMARY Existing law makes someone guilty of 3rd degree criminal trespass if the person, knowing that he or she is not licensed or privileged to do so, enters or remains in areas that are posted in a way set by law or reasonably likely to come to an intruder’s attention.
This bill explicitly makes painting a restricted area’s borders purple a type of posting covered by this law.
By law, this kind of criminal trespass is a class C misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in prison, up to a $500 fine, or both.
