Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 286 now includes a requirement that employees of early childhood care and education programs must be paid according to a new compensation schedule, unless their current salary is higher than that amount. This change is important as it aims to standardize pay for those working in childcare, potentially improving workforce stability and service quality at these programs. Additionally, provisions from a previous section regarding child care subsidies have been removed, focusing the bill more on employee compensation rather than funding for child care services. This could impact how families access affordable child care in the future.
