The bill updates the prohibited practices in debt collection by excluding email communication from restrictions on contacting debtors during certain hours.

  • Section 559.72

communicate with a debtor between the hours of 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. in the debtor's time zone without the prior consent of the debtor. → communicate with a debtor between the hours of 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. in the debtor's time zone without the prior consent of the debtor. This subsection does not apply to an e-mail communication that is sent to an e-mail address and that otherwise complies with this section.

The new law allows for email communication with debtors at any time, even during previously restricted hours.
