The updated version of HB 1517 clarifies that the owner of a vehicle or mobile home must act quickly to obtain a salvage certificate of title once the vehicle is declared a total loss. Specifically, it now states that the owner or insurance company must submit the title to the department within 72 hours after the vehicle is declared salvage, rather than waiting for an agreement between the owner and insurer. This change aims to streamline the process, ensuring that owners can't dispose of their total loss vehicles before proper documentation is obtained, which helps maintain better records and protects consumer rights.
