5 changes Share ↗

Compared against the Kentucky Revised Statutes as published AI-generated reading aid — verify against the official bill.

The bill establishes a new enforcement mechanism for stop arm violations involving school buses, allowing for the installation of camera monitoring systems and the imposition of civil penalties for violations.

  • KRS 189.990

A stop arm camera violation shall not result in points being assessed against the driving record of the owner or operator of the vehicle in violation.

The bill specifies that violations captured by stop arm cameras will not affect drivers' points.

  • KRS 189.990

The amount of a civil penalty for a stop arm camera violation shall be: (a) Five hundred dollars ($500) for the first civil penalty; and (b) One thousand dollars ($1,000) for each subsequent civil penalty issued to an owner within a three (3) year period.

The bill establishes new civil penalties for violations recorded by school bus cameras.

  • KRS 189.990

All revenue generated from a civil penalty for stop arm camera violations shall be retained by the county.

The bill designates that fines collected for stop arm violations will go to the county.

  • KRS 189.990

If a stop arm camera violation is not paid or contested in accordance with Section 5 of this Act within sixty (60) days, the county may notify the Transportation Cabinet of the nonpayment. Upon notice of nonpayment, the cabinet shall suspend the registration of a motor vehicle until the civil penalty is paid.

The bill allows for the suspension of vehicle registration for nonpayment of stop arm camera violation penalties.

  • KRS 189.990

A recorded image produced by a camera monitoring system shall be sufficient evidence of a violation of Section 8 of this Act and shall be admitted without further authentication for the purposes of enforcement.

The bill simplifies the process for enforcing stop arm violations by accepting camera evidence without additional verification.
