The recent amendment to Bill SB 150 established the West Kentucky SAFE fund specifically to aid recovery efforts for those affected by the December 2021 storms and tornadoes in the region. This fund will be managed by the Department of Military Affairs and will continue to gather various forms of financial support without lapsing until June 30, 2024. Importantly, it ensures that eligible recipients of aid are limited to local governments and certain nonprofit organizations, while also restricting government agencies from competing with nonprofits for donations. These changes enhance the fund's ability to provide targeted assistance and ensure the stability of financial support during the recovery phase.
