What changed in the latest version
5 added · 10 removedPlain-language change summary
The definition of "surprise bill" was amended to explicitly include charges from an out-of-network clinical laboratory when referred by an in-network provider. This change clarifies that both scenarios involving services rendered by an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility and those from certain laboratory services now fall under the definition of surprise billing. This matters because it broadens the scope of what may be classified as a surprise bill, potentially impacting how such cases are treated in terms of insurance coverage and patient cost responsibilities.
