Plain-language change summary

The updated bill, SB 586, removes the provision that required the Commissioner of Social Services to amend the state Medicaid plan to provide expanded contraception benefits. This change means that there is no longer a specific mandate for the Medicaid plan to cover additional contraception methods and services, including the stipulations against step therapy or prior authorization for those services. The practical effect is a more general expansion of health benefits for women, children, and adolescents without the specific focus on contraception coverage outlined in the earlier version.
