Plain-language change summary

The updated bill modifies the criteria under which a grandparent may seek visitation rights with a minor child. It now clarifies that “real and significant harm” requires the minor to be neglected or uncared for and specifies that a grandparent's petition must demonstrate that the child's parents or guardians are unreasonably denying visitation. Additionally, the court can consider the history of contact between the grandparent and the child when determining whether a parent-like relationship exists and must evaluate the impact of any domestic violence on the minor. These changes aim to provide clearer guidelines for courts in making visitation determinations.
