Plain-language change summary

The amendment to Bill SB 944 clarifies that a nonconforming use, building, or structure can be repaired without losing the right to continue its use if the repair involves demolition or deconstruction, as long as the work is completed within five years. It specifies that this right is retained even if the building or structure is demolished for repairs, except if the nonconformity is expanded. This change is significant because it provides more certainty for property owners regarding their ability to maintain nonconforming structures while making necessary repairs.
