Summary
The Budget Act of 2017 made appropriations for the support of state government for the 2017–18 fiscal year. Among other things, the act appropriated $7,000,000 from the General Fund for grants for cities and counties that participate in the federal Local Update of Census Addresses Program and for the Department of Finance to use for costs related to hiring a Census Outreach Coordinator for specified fiscal years. This bill would instead authorize the $7,000,000 to be used for the grants and, up to 5% of the appropriation, for administrative costs to support the federal Local Update of Census Addresses Program and other activities related to the 2020 federal decennial census. By changing the purpose for which the funds may be used, the bill would make an appropriation. The bill would also make other changes. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as a Budget Bill.
