The proposed amendments to Bill LB 108 adjust the contribution rates for firefighters participating in the retirement system. Starting from October 2024, the contribution will gradually increase from 8.7% to 12.7% of their salary over the next few years. Additionally, an exception for firefighters employed by a city allows some to continue contributing only 6.5% starting March 1, 2025. These changes are important as they help ensure the long-term financial stability of the retirement system while also addressing the immediate needs of certain firefighters.
