The proposed changes to HB 2167 involve replacing section 27.020 with two new sections that authorize the legislature to employ security officers who have law enforcement powers and can carry firearms if necessary. This modification aims to enhance security in the capitol, allowing these officers to arrest individuals when required. Additionally, the bill includes an emergency clause, which means the changes will take effect immediately to address safety concerns during the current legislative session. This shift is significant because it prioritizes the security of lawmakers and the functioning of the legislature.
