Present law provides for the creation of the Seafood SafetyTask Force whose purpose is to serve as the state panel of experts focused on ensuring the safety of seafood processed, distributed, purchased, and consumed in La.
and to provide education and awareness to consumersofthehealthrisksassociatedwithimportedseafood.
Specifiesthatthetaskforce must also make recommendations on the utilization of money in the Imported Seafood Safety Fund for testing imported seafood.
Present law provides for the composition of the task force, which includes appointees by relevant legislative committees and government agencies, the chancellor of La.
State University, statewide associations and boards, as well as a public health nutritionist.
Proposed law adds representatives from the oyster industry appointed by the Oyster Task Force,crabindustryappointedbytheCrabTaskForce,finfishindustryappointedbytheLa.
Finfish Task Force, and crawfish industryto the task force.
