The recent amendments to Bill SB 371 have shifted the focus from second convictions to third or subsequent convictions for certain domestic violence-related offenses. The updated bill now specifies that individuals with these later convictions will be required to register with the Habitual Domestic Violence Offender Registry upon release or as a condition of probation or parole. This change is significant because it aims to enhance tracking and accountability for repeat offenders, potentially providing better protection for victims of domestic violence.
