The updated version of Bill SB 83 now includes specific requirements for local school boards to adopt policies aimed at preventing human trafficking in schools. Key changes mandate that each school must name at least one employee—such as a counselor or administrator—to undergo annual training on identifying and reporting human trafficking victims. This matters because it prepares schools to better recognize and assist vulnerable students, and helps create a safer environment for children and youth who may be at risk.
