The amended version of SB 426 clarifies the definition of "consumer" by explicitly stating that it encompasses individuals who have wrongful death claims as part of their legal actions. Additionally, it specifies that the consumer legal funding provided must be used for personal expenses and not for costs related to prosecuting the legal claim. These changes matter because they define who is eligible for consumer legal funding and ensure funds are directed toward personal needs, potentially protecting consumers from further financial strain during legal proceedings.
