Plain-language change summary

The changes to House File 181 clarify that no open containers of beverages containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are allowed in the passenger area of vehicles on highways, similar to laws regulating open alcohol containers. These changes specify where such beverages can be stored while driving, such as in the trunk or behind the last seat if the vehicle lacks a trunk. This matters because it aims to enhance road safety by reducing distractions and potential intoxication related to THC while driving. Additionally, specific penalties have been established for violations, particularly for individuals under 21 years old.
