Plain-language change summary

The revised version of House File 2199 adds specific educational requirements for individuals applying to Level II law enforcement academy programs, mandating proof of completion of a two-year or four-year degree in police science or criminal justice. This change aims to ensure that applicants have a more substantial academic background in relevant fields, which may improve the quality of training and preparedness of law enforcement professionals. This matters because better-trained officers can lead to enhanced public safety and community trust in law enforcement.
