The recent amendments to Bill SB 3103 changed the terminology used in the legislation from "sickle cell anemia" to "sickle cell disease." This matters because "sickle cell disease" is the more accurate and inclusive term that encompasses all forms of the condition, which can improve clarity and ensure that medical assistance covers a broader range of related health issues. This change reflects a growing recognition of the importance of using precise language in healthcare legislation.
