What changed in the latest version

The bill SB 71 has been amended to change the deadline for developing safety guidance concerning hazardous substance incidents from July 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. Additionally, the guidance will now be published on the State Board of Education's website instead of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency's website. These changes are important because they give a bit more time for the development of the safety procedures and ensure that schools have direct access to the information they need to protect students in case of an emergency.
