Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to HB 1234 introduces a new requirement for the Secretary of State to conduct a study on the affordability and availability of mandatory automobile insurance in Illinois by January 1, 2026. The study will look at factors like zip codes, credit scores, and age to see if they contribute to unfair insurance rates for certain groups of people. This change matters because it aims to assess and potentially address inequities in how insurance rates are determined, ensuring fairer treatment for all residents.
