The recent changes to Bill SB 3561 introduce clearer definitions and regulations for "buy-now-pay-later" loans, which are short-term loans for purchasing goods or services. It now specifies that these loans must be repaid in four or fewer installments or within 120 days. Additionally, the bill establishes that any lender must register with the relevant state department to operate legally and outlines the responsibilities for lenders to provide important consumer disclosures. These adjustments aim to protect consumers by ensuring transparency and accountability in this growing lending sector.
