Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to SB 40 expands the definition of habilitative services in the Illinois Insurance Code to include coverage for speech therapy specifically aimed at treating stuttering. This change means that starting January 1, 2027, health insurance policies must cover these services, helping children with speech disorders get the support they need, regardless of how their condition is classified. This adjustment is significant as it addresses a common speech issue that can impact a child's communication skills and overall quality of life.
