Plain-language change summary

The amended version of HB 2425 specifies that life insurance companies in Illinois cannot deny coverage or charge higher rates based solely on a person's felony conviction when it comes to final expense policies. This change removes the ability for insurers to discriminate against individuals with felony records for these specific policies, which are meant to cover funeral and burial costs. However, it clarifies that insurers are not required to provide coverage to individuals who are currently incarcerated. This matters because it opens access to vital insurance for those who have made mistakes in their pasts, helping them secure essential end-of-life expenses.
