The amendment to Bill CER 26-0043 recognizes May 1, 2025, as DC Statehood Day to highlight the lack of voting representation for District residents, who contribute significantly through taxes and military service. It emphasizes the historical disenfranchisement of DC citizens and their ongoing fight for equal representation in Congress. This change is important as it aims to raise awareness about DC residents' rights and supports their push for statehood.
